Yorkshire Cup

Sunday’s Yorkshire Cup game was always going to be a big ask for any team playing such a good, structured team like West Park Leeds. Keighley started the game well with a promising attack, Nathan Pickles as scrum half bossing his forwards, with a very good partnership of Gregor Curr, Denon Sokee and Jack Smith looking very lively and dangerous throughout the game. This was short lived with West Park Leeds very talented scrum-half feeding his back line meaning the enormous No.13 could round Keighley winger Arron Hands to pop a short ball inside for their winger to score in the corner, conversion missed. The remainder of the first half remained in similar fashion with west Leeds dominating open play and Keighley having the upper hand.

The second half was a different story with Keighley bettering West Park in both tight and lose encounters. Keighley who pride themselves on having a strong scrum throughout the whole club never went back and this created options with Max Wild picking from No.8 he was able to feed live-wire, utility player Kristian Bealey-Kay to make some solid yards. A break away try for West Park gave them a foot back in the door. Keighley again came back positive with some great tactical kicking from Gregor Curr, Keighley saw themselves again inserted within the Leeds half but they were meet by solid defence from the away side. With time now ticking on Keighley broke into the Leeds 22 with full back Toby Stevens getting into space, there was some good game play from Leeds Park West which saw them go the full length of the pitch to score under the posts.

Even though we lost, the team work and spirit shown by the boys was tremendous, so well done boys. Now on to next week when we meet a strong Bradford Salem team at the Rose Cottage.
