Cameron McIntyre was unlucky not to open the scoring in the first minute, but Keighley kept the momentum and Sam Crawley crossed for a well deserved try in the third minute.
Keighleys forwards exerted consistent pressure on the visitors and drove them forward at every opportunity with Bradley Akrigg, Bill Todd and Connor Holmes securing quality possession for Jonny Tanner to launch his back division. This led to Ryan Vero bursting through to score quickly followed by McIntyre who successfully touched down on this occasion. Bradley Akrigg was proving reliable with the boot and half time had the scores at 21-0.
Huddersfield fought back in the second half, but with Vero at outside centre and McIntyre at inside centre also assisting their forwards Keighley denied Huddersfield possession. Despite determined tackling Vero scored a further three tries in the second half and Akrigg maintained his 100% success rate. Huddersfield also secured a converted try with the match ending in a 42-7 victory for Keighley.
A second shorter game was more closely contested with Huddersfield showing good character to lead the game for most of the match, before Keighley scored in the dying seconds to snatch a 17-14 win with two tries from McIntyre and one from Vero, Akrigg missed only one conversion.
Keighley end their season this weekend at the Huddersfield RUFC Centenary Tournament, where they have the opportunity to measure how far they have progressed this season. Good luck.
