Keighley travelled to Doncaster with fifteen players, just enough to field a team against a Doncaster team with the luxury of six substitutes.
Keighley started well with the forwards rucking ball effectively at the breakdowns to win good quality possession quickly to launch an adventurous back line.
The first ten minutes saw Keighley exerting pressure and almost scoring, but Doncaster counter attacked and scored a spectacular try against the run of play.
Keighley kicked long at the restart and Doncaster ran into space to get deep into Keighley’s half. Doncaster exerted sustained pressure and Keighley defended valiantly to deny the try, but eventually Doncaster scored again.
Keighley raised their gain and recycled the ball well with Matty Storton and Ryan Vero combining well to put Doncaster under pressure. Keighley’s forwards worked hard to turn over possession and release Keighleys backs, but Doncaster capitalised on a loose ball to run in their third try to lead 19-0 at half time.
Keighley opened the second half by releasing second row Louis Holmes to run 80m to score between the posts.
Doncaster continued to rotate their substitutes and the fresh legs soon overcame a determined Keighley side to score several more ties in the second half as Keighley tired.
Keighley now face Barnsley away on 4 November in the Yorkshire Plate competition.
