The second match of the season saw a number of the squad playing a full game for the first time and in different position to their normal team place.

Each one of the 13 squad would have a hard match demanding a great level of fitness and strong tackling to defend the attacks from the Bees pack and backs.

The game was split in to four phases.

Initially Bees were on the front foot. Attacking strongly and breaking through gaps in the Keighley defensive line. During this phase Bees managed to get two tries past Keighley, but Keighley did not drop their heads or their performance. Each player starting to wake to the challenges of Bees and the demand of their efforts in the positions allocated to them.

Keighley then grabbed their first points of the game with a strong run from Ni, outpacing the Bees defence round the edge of the wing. This gave Keighley the positive result they needed and the belief they were capable in the match started to spread amongst the team.

This started the second phase of the game where Keighley ensured the Bees attack were unable to cross the line to score further points. Strong tackling from Keighley and a dominant performance in the set plays, scrum and line out, kept Bees at bay.

Bees squeezed through the defence for one last try in the first half.

The second half started with another quick try for Bees. This focussed Keighley and we then entered the third phase of the game.

Keighley were dominant and the play remained fixed within the Bees half of the pitch. The dominance resulted in two tries for Keighley and the gap in the score dropping to 5 points. Keighley continued to dominate play in both the forwards and backs until mid way through the second half.

By this stage the physical demand of the game began to show with a couple of injuries, the team struggling with no subs available.

The fourth phase of the game, for the duration of the final quarter of the game, saw both sides playing at their best attempting to break through strong defence. Bees were successful with two further tries.

The end result was a fair reflection on the game but the continued efforts of the Keighley squad to bring the game back in their favour were very impressive to watch.
