After missing a week Keighley U14’s returned in to action at Cleckheaton and with 3 regular players missing gave debuts to forwards Ben Holdsworth and John Bolton.
Cleckheaton applied the early pressure and missed tackles enabled the home side to score under the posts for a well worked converted try, 7-0.
Keighley had far the better of the next 15 minutes and eventually the ever present Elliott Barker took advantage of a well rehearsed line out delivered by Ryan Baines to score an unconverted try, 7-5. What remained of the first half saw Keighley camped in the Cleckheaton 22 but some good defence kept the visitors out.
The second period started in the same vain as the first half had finished with Keighley’s hard working forwards dominating possession. Elliott Barker had a try disallowed for not grounding the ball correctly but it was left to the talented Conner Taylor to break rank to score a fine solo try in the corner and with Nick Holroyd failing with the conversion the score was 7-10.
The home side bounced back but they were held up over the line and Keighley eventually cleared their line after soaking up some heavy Cleckheaton pressure.
Keighley then had another good 5 minute spell before the home team responded with one last gasped effort throwing the ball out wide but when Ben Say made the second of his brilliant cover tackles the whistle went and the Keighley players who had all worked hard took the victory 10-7 in an entertaining encounter.
