The suggestion of awarding a tie for participation in the 1st XV took place at committee meetings during 1973-74. At a meeting on 11 Dec 1973, it was stated that before a 1st XV tie could be ordered, it was necessary to have a design. Mr Whitcombe was to look into the matter.
This award, in the form of a plain green tie with the KRUFC Coat of Arms, two diagonal stripes in red and white along with ‘1st XV’, is presented to a player when he first achieves the distinction of playing 20 games in one season for the 1st XV. It was first awarded at the AGM on 20 June 1974, when Dave Good, the 1st XV Captain presented ties to:
Dave Ackroyd Alec Bailey John Cornwell Dave Coward
John Davies Martin Flanagan Dave Good John Longbottom
Kevin McGee Howard Rhodes Adrian Waterhouse Chris Waterhouse
Frank Whitcombe
At the AGM in 1975, ties were presented to Trevor Clark; Steve Hargreaves; Andy Butler; R Smith; C Ackroyd.
