The idea of forming a R.U.F.C in Keighley grew out of the fact that a certain number of ex Grammar School boys were introduced to the game at holiday times by certain of their pals who, continuing their studies at Sedbergh Giggleswick etc. played the game at their new schools.
Amongst those who finished their schooling at Keighley, was Tom Lund whose interest in the game was increased still more, during the 1st World War whilst serving with the Royal Marines.
After the war, odd matches arranged amongst themselves.
Mr Lund then suggested that an attempt should be made to form a club amongst the old boys of the school.
Mr T P Watson, the Head, was approached, gave every encouragement, and offered the use of the Masters Common room at the school to discuss the idea.
The first meeting was held on Tuesday Dec. 21st, 1920, about a dozen old boys attending, under the chairmanship of Mr Lund.
It was decided to try and form a club and immediately to open a subscription list, the club to be called "The Keighlians Old Boys Rugby Football Club".
An extract from the diary of Arthur Town which refers to the early days of the club.
