A fierce contest on a blustery day. Dinnington, struggling in the relegation zone of the league table started the game at a terrific pace.

After a torrid ten minutes of pressure Keighley drove the play up field into the opposition twenty two. A quickly taken tap penalty by alert Scrum half Balderstone found Captain Leigh Sugden in support, using his strength he drove through two defenders for a well worked try.

Dinnington responded with some fine attacking back play well supported by their lively forwards, especially powerful number eight Will Marshall. However, the Keighley defence featuring some outstanding work from the back row of Sugden, Lowther and Dyson absorbed whatever was thrown at them. With ex-Wharfdale second row Dave Lister in control at the lineout and outside half Alex Brown playing the conditions well, Keighley were soon back in contention, clever lineout work and a driving maul gave wing forward Tom Lowther the space to make a superb break up the touchline, moving infield to check defenders he gave an inch perfect pass to speedy hooker Will Armitage on his outside, who sprinted at least thirty metre to the corner.

In the second half playing with a ten point advantage, and playing down hill it looked as if Keighley thought the game was all but over, and as a result temporarily seemed to lose concentration, which gave Dinnington the chance to throw everything they had at the Keighley line, dominating possession and skilled recycling of the ball allowed them to spend a full twenty minutes in the Keighley half most of it in their twenty two. They battered their way to the Keighley line on numerous occasions, however, the Keighley defence was awesome, every player in a red shirt stood up to the pressure, keeping Dinnington at bay.

On the rare occasion when Keighley gained possession rather than kicking down field they chose to run their way out of trouble, unfortunately this was nearly always the wrong option, losing possession they were again put under pressure. When Keighley eventually managed to gain field position a loose ball was swept up by winger Lucus Uren who drove it through the middle, a neat pass to centre Adam Horsfall gave him the opportunity to side the last defender and score wide out. Although Dinnington maintained a constant supply of possession and good field positions they were unable to make any further headway, more often than not running into powerful centres Marco Ferrezzano and Adam Horsfall.

A late Keighley attack down the left gave winger Uren another chance to make ground, this time he delivered the ball inside to hooker Will Armitage who once again showed a fine turn of speed to gain his second try and a man of the match award, Alex Brown finished the match with a well struck conversion.

A total team victory against gritty opposition and difficult weather conditions will have given Keighley the confidence to face Castleford at home this Saturday.
