Keighley's promotion hopes were dealt a sever blow when they gained no points from the defeat at Pontefract. They still need 7, or preferably 8 points, to secure promotion.

Pontefract 32 Keighley 16

A free flowing entertaining game of rugby. Keighley gaining an early scrum drove the opposition backwards with ease, allowing number eight Josh Hannah to pick up and go, with the Pontefract defensive line in retreat he slipped the ball to the backs which resulted in a well taken try in the corner for centre Ben Blackwell. Pontefract eager to use their speedy back line replied within minutes, a break by full back Louis Brown led to a run in for winger Stewart Sanderson. Keighley built up the pressure and gained a penalty converted by Alex Brown. A little later a poor kick infield from a Keighley player gave Pontefract the chance to counter attack and a second try for winger Sanderson. Pontefract committed to using their main attacking weapon, the backs, confidently moved the ball wide as often as possible causing the visitor’s defence a number of problems, which led eventually to a penalty for outside half Glenn Boyd. Keighley replied with a further penalty from Brown. Towards the end of the half a sustained period of pressure from the Pontefract back line led to a hat trick try for winger Sanderson who touched down in the corner. Not to be outdone Keighley’s centre Ben Blackwell latched on to a half break from wing forward Shaun Minikin, beating at least three defenders he released winger Luke Carter to score wide out.
Half time:16-18

This game was a carbon copy of the previous encounter between these teams. Pontefract with the more elusive backs and Keighley the stronger forwards. This time, instead of reverting in the second half to a more restrictive style of play based on forward power that had proved so successful in the first encounter at Utley, they chose to play a more open game and throw the ball around. Pontefract were in their element, with their outside half and outside centre controlling the game Keighley were under pressure, once again poor kicking out of defence gave Pontefract free ball and the chance to counter attack through the backs and a well taken try for man of the match centre Craig Fawcett. A little later full back Louis Brown capped a fine performance when he joined the line at pace to score near the posts Glen Boyd added both conversions. Keighley working hard spent the last period of the half camped in the opposition territory but were unable to add to their score line.
