Roundhegians beaten twice in a season by over 50 points.

Keighley 61 Roundhegians 17

A feast of running rugby. Keighley with the return of their influential centre Adam Horsfall were back to their winning ways, with a nine try demolition of Roundhegians. The first score came within the first ten minutes; Horsfall drew a defender before releasing fellow centre Ben Blackwell at pace, outside half Alex Brown finished the play with a try under the posts, he also added the conversion. The visitors replied with a penalty from scrum half Alex Jones. Keighley were forced to weather some pressure from the big Roundhegian forwards, however their defence remained composed. Eventually they returned to the attack, from a lineout prop Craig Spencer slipped the ball to second row Leigh Sugden who crashed over to score, Brown added the extras. There followed a period of constant Rounhegians pressure, but they were once again unable to capitalise on it due to Keighley’s well organised defence. Towards the end of the half number eight Josh Hannah was put through a gap to score under the posts, converted by Brown.

In the second half Keighley ran riot, their hard working forwards supplied a plentiful supply of possession which allowed the backs to move the ball wide, with some clever interplay between forwards and backs number eight Josh Hannah crossed under the posts. With full back Alan Ebbrell joining the line at every opportunity and close support work from the whole team Keighley overwhelmed the Rounhegian’s defence leading to a further five tries. Alex Brown added four conversions. Ben Blackwell finished the scoring for the hosts when he finished off an outstanding passage of play with a try under the posts, he also added the conversion. Roundhegians although at times totally outplayed never gave up and their gritty determination was rewarded with a try for back rower Dave Wilson and one from outside half James Dobson, Alex Jones added both conversions. Keighley after two poor performances were able to play a high tempo game in the right areas of the field which allowed them to display their skills and athleticism. The scene is nicely set for Saturday’s away fixture against league leaders West Leeds.
