Keighley succumbed to a workman like Bridlington team, with veteran outside half Muru running the show

From the kick off Keighley were indecisive and conceded a penalty that Muru converted. Bridlington at this stage of the game dominated proceedings, and further pressure on the Keighley line gave Muru another penalty and an easy three points.

Keighley managed to weather the early storm and with ball in hand looked dangerous. However, once again the line out was the weakest aspect of Keighley play, which gave the opposition a greater share of possession and the option to kick to touch when under pressure.

Towards the end of the half the Keighley scrum with evergreen Slim Sinfield in fine form became a dominant factor, giving the back row the opportunity to run at a defence in retreat. Although they pressured Keighley let a number of opportunities slip away from them, through a poor choice of options and lack of precision. In the final minutes of the half outside half Muru added another penalty to his tally.

The second half was a different game, the Keighley forwards were intent on pressurising Bridlington at every opportunity. Driving play deep into Bridlington territory they gave outside half Danny McGee the opportunity to drop a goal. A few minutes later, against the run of play, a Keighley indiscretion at the breakdown gave Bridlington a penalty, converted by Muru.

Keighley returning to the attack using their dominance at the scrum and breakdown to provide good ball for the backs. On a number of occasions centre Marco Ferrazzano broke free down the middle of the field causing severe problems in the Bridlington defence, which eventually caused them to concede a number of penalties, one of which Danny McGee converted. With time running out Keighley became impatient, and were too intent on forcing the game. As a result some good approach work came to nought when an attempt at an offload in a tackle fell into the hands of Bridlington’s substitute Kinnaird who had a clear run in for a try under the posts, converted by Muru.

Keighley quickly resumed where they had left off, returning play into the Bridlington twenty two metre area. Their efforts were rewarded with a try in the corner for winger Sam Walker, unfortunately for Keighley the chance of a bonus point slipped away with a missed conversion. Keighley having lost narrowly to the league leaders in the last two weeks have little to fear in Yorkshire One. With some adjustments to the lineout and a greater degree of composure they will eventually do well in the league.

This week they face York in a home fixture, Kick off 3pm.
