This was another game we could have won but eventually lost 25-30.

Bridlington 30 Keighley 25
By Sam Griffin
A difficult day at the seaside for Keighley. At the start of the game Bridlington playing with the wind were dominating possession and building up a head of steam, then a stray pass fell into the hands of wing forward Tom Willson who raced away to score under the posts. Converted by winger Olly Mitchell. The restart was mishandled by Keighley which immediately led to a penalty that Brid full back Sam Wragg converted. Keighley fought back immediately through good phase play and a fine break down the left wing by centre Sean Kelly. Unfortunately Keighley were too weak at the ensuing breakdown and lost the ball, with the Keighley backs set for attack Brid scrum half and captain Otis Floyd broke through easily to score wide out, Wragg added the extra points. Although Keighley responded well they were harassed at the breakdown by the physical opposition forwards, as a result a number of try scoring opportunities went begging. Brid with both forwards and backs playing direct hard running rugby gained a further penalty from Wragg. Keighley responded through outside half Grayson Tihema who managed to break out of defence to set up an attack, cleverly he kicked over the top, the bounce was perfect and he was over for a well earned try, once again converted by Mitchell. At the stroke of half time Keighley had a scrum on their five metre line, unfortunately for them either their lack of concentration or effort allowed Brid to push them off the ball and an easy second try for Scrum half Floyd converted by Wragg.

Brid started the second half strongly through well supported driving play, which more often than not crossed the gain line. The directness of attack payed dividends with another penalty for Wragg. Keighley with the game slipping out of their grasp made a big effort and gained a further three penalty points from the boot of Olly Mitchell. Keighley continued to press hard with some driving play of their own through Sam Booker and Sean Kelly. However, losing two line outs near the opposition line stunted any chance they had of turning pressure into points, even though they gained a further penalty from Mitchell. Brid having absorbed what Keighley had to offer moved play up field and a well worked try through a soft defence for substitute forward Wirema Cookson, well converted by Wragg. Keighley with a late effort gained a losing bonus point through a well taken try for hooker Will Armitage. Although on balance Bridlington were the stronger side, Keighley had their chances and could easily have taken the spoils.
