Within the first few minutes a driving maul after a line out in the opposition twenty two led to a try in the corner for hooker Will Armitage. Keighley maintained the pressure and a long pass from outside half Danny McGee gave flying winger Luke Carter a long run into the corner.
A few minutes later a break by Ian Woodwiss supported by Armitage found Carter in space and his second try, conversion from Ben Blackwell. With a seventeen point lead in as many minutes Keighley chose to play open rugby in their own twenty two, this risky option gave Acklam heart and Keighley misguided enterprise was punished by two penalties for Acklam's outside half Danny Ashton.
Keighley eventually got back to basics and a fine break by number eight Stuart Inman was rewarded with a try for supporting fullback Alex Brown, converted by Blackwell.
Acklam started the second half well with a further penalty from Ashton. Keighley responded and their forward pressure led to mistakes in defence, the ball was hacked on by prop Craig Spencer and winger Adam Horsfall followed up to score, converted by Blackwell. Fellow winger Sam Walker added to Keighley’s tally when he chased a clever cross field kick to score in the corner. Once again Keighley opened their game up in their own territory, and were punished with a well taken try for Acklam’s winger Ben Forbes.
The visitors grew in confidence and pressed the Keighley line, unfortunately, what should have been a scoring pass was intercepted by Sam Walker, a quick pass inside and a length of the field run in for Danny McGee, Blackwell added the extras. Some direct play from Keighley’s midfield tank Marco Ferrezzano and quick hands gave Luke Carter his third try.
Acklam fought their way back into opposition territory and scrum half Josh Milnes punished a handling error to score, a little later strong winger Forbes got his second try after some good approach work from the Acklam pack, Ashton landed the conversion.
Keighley finished the game strongly with a break from scrum half Woodwiss and a well earned try for man of the match Ben Blackwell.
This Saturday Keighley hope to continue their winning ways with an away trip to Bridlington.
