Selby 55 Keighley 15

Keighley dominated the first twenty minutes and some accurate interpassing between forwards and backs gave centre Adam Horsfall a well deserved try wide out.

Selby were stung into action and decided to move the ball wide at every opportunity. Gaining a penalty in midfield they chose to run it and after some good approach work hooker Sam Cruise crossed in the corner. From that point onwards Keighley were under a lot of pressure.

Some poor defensive kicking gave Selby time and space to gather momentum giving wing forward Rihi Brown the opportunity to finish a well executed attack under the posts, full back Josh Cruise added the conversion. Keighley fought back and Alex Brown kicked a penalty. This was cancelled out with a penalty for Cruise followed by a try from winger Ben Lund, converted by Cruise.

In the second half with two influential players forced to leave the field with injuries Keighley were under extreme pressure, Selby with the cushion of a good score played on Keighley’s weakness and moved the ball wide thus avoiding the competitive Keighley forwards and into poorly defended space which led to five well taken tries, full back Cruise adding four conversions.

Keighley had the consolation of the final try when the forwards drove from a line out to score; number eight Leigh Sugden claimed the touchdown, converted by Brown.

This Saturday Keighley entertain Old Brodlians.
