After a tentative start by both teams, the Keighley pack began to dominate, forcing Brid to concede penalties, one of which Alex Brown converted. A loose kick from Keighley found its way into the hands of replacement back Regan Stirk who managed to dance his way through numerous would be tacklers to score, converted by full back L Teriwa.
With the Keighley pack on top form in all phases of play, the visitors chose the right option, making every effort to effort to move the ball wide, away from the opposition strength. Bridlington with their defence holding firm gained possession and speculatively kicked for the corner, a Keighley defender raced across in an attempt to drop on the ball but lost possession, a quick pass and a simple try for burly prop A Dixon. Keighley closed the half with a late penalty for Olly Mitchell.
The second half was fiercely contested, Brid moved the ball well and put the Keighley line under severe pressure. Eventually regaining the upper hand the Keighley forwards drove play up field and some clever inter passing between forwards and backs led to a try under the posts for centre Liam McGee, converted by Brown.
With time running out, a one point lead and dominant forwards, it called for some steady play either through the forwards or kicking for field position, forcing Bridlington to attack from far out. Instead Keighley chose the wrong option, and attempted to move the ball through the backs into mid field, the result, a telegraphed pass was easily intercepted by Bridlington’s full back Teriwa, who raced away to score, he also added the conversion. Game over.
