With quick athletic forwards and backs with skill and pace the Medics were able to launch a series of attacks and build pressure. Eventually some fine back play gave full back Phillip Gardner the chance to use his pace to outstripped the defence for a score in the corner. Alan Ebbrell got Keighley on the scoreboard with a penalty. Eventually Keighley were able to force their way into the visitor’s territory where some direct work from Josh Hannah took play to the try line. The Keighley forwards maintained the pressure, an attempt at a clearance kick was charged down by Alan Ebbrell, following up he scored, also adding the conversion. Leeds Medics’ response was instant, a long range kick out of defence and a fine chase caught Keighley in possession, once again superb back play swept the ball into the corner, an inside pass found wing forward Josh Janvier in support and a well deserved try.
At the start of the second half with centres Marco Ferrazzano and Adam Horsfall managing to nullify the visitors attacking moves, Alan Ebbrell calmed Keighley’s nerves with a penalty. A few minutes later a Medics centre gained a second yellow card for a high tackle which meant he had to be sent off. This gave Keighley the break they needed. The host forwards well led by captain Craig Spencer increased their work rate driving play into the visitors twenty two. At a scrum, half back Danny Lester put his opposite number under pressure, which gave wing forward Tom Lowther the chance to pounce on a loose ball to score. Although the Medics battled away they found the going difficult. The Keighley forwards were at this stage in almost complete control. Outstanding scrum half Danny Lester took advantage making a superb break through the visitor’s cover defence, Josh Hannah continued the attack, when tackled he slipped the ball to winger Sam Blakeley who used his pace to score, Alan Ebbrell added the extras. As the final whistle approached winger Luke Carter gained Keighley a bonus point with a well taken try in the corner. This Saturday Keighley are on the road again, with a trip to Leodensians.
