Tilllotson hat-trick sends Academy back to winning ways

After a couple of disappointing results to end 2016, Keighley's Academy were keen to start the New Year on a high against Old Brods Vets.
On 2 minutes they were off the mark with a penalty from Jordan Powell. For the next 20 minutes Keighley were the most dominant team in attack but were unable to turn possession into points , with the ball going to ground at vital times. On 25 minutes Keighley opened the try scoring after a spell of pressure near the Brods line with James Tillotson scoring near the corner flag. A missed conversion made the score 8-0.
Keighley continued to dominate the game , playing a good kicking game with Jordan Powell and Tom Stell a constant thorn in the Brods attack forcing them into errors, again failing to add to the score though.
On 30 minutes against the run of play a loose pass was intercepted by Brods who raced 40 yards to score under the posts, the conversion was added to make the score 8-7. Jordan Powell was again reliable with the boot adding a penalty on 35 minutes to stretch Keighley’s lead to 11-7.
As the half drew to a close. Brods were unlucky not to take the lead for the first time in the game, as Keighley’s dogged defence held the brods attacker up over the line. Making the half time score 11-7.
It was evident during the half time team talk that had Keighley taken all their chances during the 1st half the game would have already been over as a competition.
Keighley hit the ground running as the second half got underway with Nathan Berry crossing under the posts after some slick play close to the brods line. Powell successful with the extras making the score 18-7. By now Keighley were turning the screw with tillotson creating havoc around the ruck, Phillips, Berry and Curr all punching holes in the brods defence.
On 55 minutes tillotson found a gap to score wide out to stretch Keighley’s lead to 23-7. For 20 minutes it was all one way traffic with Steve Welch and man of the match Joe Emmott the pick of the pack. On 75 minutes Micky Phillips hit a gap from the Base of the scrum and raced in under the posts. Conversation successful and the score stood at 30-7. Tom Stell was unlucky not to add the scoreline but was called back for a forward pass.
As the clock ticked down James Tillotson was rewarded with his hat-trick after ghosting in unopposed, Powell added the extras to end a very dominant second half display with the final score 37-7.
