Phillips double crowns impressive Academy victory

A strong Keighley Academy side looked to avenge their away fixture with Ribb in February.
They were unlucky not to open their account in the opening minutes with a disallowed Tom Stell try due to the referee not seeing the grounding of the ball. Keighley enjoyed the early stages of the game with strong periods of pressure but were unable to turn this into points.
On 10 minutes captain Neil Jordan split the Ribb defence and cleverly offloaded to Micky Phillips who raced in at the side of the posts. An Andrew Marklew conversion gave Keighley an early 7 point advantage. On 20 minutes the home team suffered an injury blow with strong running centre Nathan Berry being replaced due to a head injury.
On 25 minutes more Keighley pressure saw Jimmy Morton outpacing 2 Ribb defenders down the wing to score a great solo try, unable to add the extras the lead was stretched to 12-0. Phillips was again on hand to score his second after picking up a chip through making the score 17-0. A Marklew conversion stretched Keighley’s lead further to 19-0.
The second half started brightly for Ribb ( who by now had taken 3 Keighley players for their first 15) quickly closed the deficit with a pushover try, a missed conversion made the score 19-5. With their heads up North Ribb quickly turned possession into more points with another quick unconverted try close the gap to 19-10.
A rallying team talk from skipper Jordan appeared to spark Keighley back into life and were rewarded when, from a line out close to the opponents try line Ryan Baines stepped the defence to crash over for a well earned try stretching Keighley's lead to 24-10.
A spell of scrappy play ensued with handling errors and scrums aplenty.. Fortunately it wasn't long before normal business was resumed, as the Ribb defence were unable to cope with a high bomb which was collected by Jordan Yaxley who crashed over for his first try for the Academy since his introduction to the team.
A missed conversion made the score 29-10 and that's how the score stayed. A well deserved victory, a debut try for "Yax" and broken ribs for manager Loz Marklew ( but that's another story) well done lads
