Winter has finally arrived!

Keighley, much the brighter from the start scored 4 Tries (Zack Scott 2, Jack McHugh, Jack Rodbourne) and 4 Conversions (Lennon Curr 2, Scott 2) all of them before Aireborough countered with a fine effort to narrow the gap.
However as has been the trait this season Keighley’s strength with their forwards paid dividends as the game progressed and they completed a comfortable 49 – 7 point win with 3 further Tries (Curr, McHugh and Seavers) all again converted (Curr, Scott and Lawrie).

FINAL SCORE – Keighley 49 – Aireborough 7

Coaches Comments

Steve Welch - It was good to see our boys stand up so well to the opposition who managed to beat us last year and deal with the cold and wet weather better than Aireborough. Despite several missing key players, our forwards retained possession very well and our backs looked dangerous when we did manage to get the ball out wide.

Our decision making from stand-off was again improved and Lennon Curr had his best tactical kicking game so far this season. Perhaps the most pleasing aspects of today’s win were the fact that we did not purely rely on our stronger players and a number of our newer players contributed well to our overall performance.

Harvey Bird deserved recognition today for his efforts as he was much more noticeable in the game.

Ethan Lawrie has absorbed the comments made to him in training and despite having little game time so far this season used them in the game. He is improving with every game and his efforts on Sunday deserved recognition.

Tom Richardson’s game was also much improved and he chased down Lennon Curr’s kicks very well and put pressure on their back line.

Nigel Curr - We played very well with a lot of intensity and aggression. The forwards took the game to the opposition and were very good at the breakdowns and scrums. Our backs did very well in difficult conditions to move the ball around; they attacked in the right areas of the pitch and kicked in to the corners to put pressure on Aireborough’s back three and get good turnover ball. All in all I thought we did what we needed to do against a good team that tried hard and played to the end.

Captain for the day Joss McArthur, Zac Scott, Jack Rodbourne, Jack McHugh, Lennon Curr, Aaron Wilson, Keir Welch, Freddie Seavers and Harry Gould – all had good solid games and Austin Flaherty’s work rate also improved markedly. Leon Hobson-Sheriff made his debut. A pleasing effort from almost all players.
