After the first game it was a confident Keighley side that took the field, and after Louis Holmes scored in the second minute this blossomed.
The Forwards dominated the larger North Ribblesdale scrum, and Sam Cubitt took numerous scrums against the head. Vero and Tanner used the options well and through Reece Holmes they unleashed the back line of Henry Pratt, Tommy Thorpe, Liam King and Jordan Powell to stretch the opposition defence and with Elliott Rothery, Matthew Toner and Vero being quick to the breakdown Keighley were able to get Liam King into space where his pace and power broke through the North Ribblesdale defence to score a fine try to make it 12 – 0 at half time.
North Ribblesdale battled hard as Keighley looked to move the ball wide and were fortunate that several final passes were knocked on by Keighley. North Ribblesdale’s effort were rewarded with a converted try after ten minutes, putting them within a try of Keighley.
Keighley persevered with the attractive running game, and were again growing in confidence before Tommy Thorpe picked up a loose ball five metres from the try line and dogdged several tackles to burrow over for a try in the last minute.
This was a spirited team performance from Keighley and despite the absence of several key players they showed how far they have come in recent weeks, the ability to apply the techniques developed in training, and how the growing togetherness of this group of players is becoming a powerful force.
