History between the two sides this season of convincingly beating Bee’s at the start of the season, and then an overconfident Keighley being dumped out of the Yorkshire Cup by an “up for it” Bee’s side this game always going to be keenly fought.

Keighley started the brightest, quick ball from the forwards and swift hands from the backs saw Niamke George run in two tries out wide within the first 5 minutes with both conversions missed.

Keighley started to take the foot off the gas and allowed Bee’s back into the game, with momentum transferring to Bee’s, missed tackles and a general lazy defence allowed Bees to score.

Keighley rallied just before half time with a score against the run of play with Jacob Rankin coming into the line from fullback to score.

Half time score 15-5

Bee’s started the second half where they left off with more commitment at the breakdown their forwards were dishing out a lesson of how to play rugby at the breakdown.

The game turned into rather a stodgy affair with strong but individual Keighley runners isolating themselves and Bee’s securing turnover ball, Keighley were hanging on when not for the first time, against the run of play Bee’s were again exposed out wide and Blake Saxby ran in for a try, the conversion was unsuccessful.

Bee’s showed great heart and kept battling and were rewarded with a try which brought the score to 20-15 with Bee’s on top in the contact area, Keighley’s big forwards were now starting to tire and it looked like Bee’s had the momentum to finish the job.

Matthew Paul at scrum half who was not having the “arm chair ride” he would have liked battled to get what scraps he could for the team, finally quick ball out to Fin Meegan who was having a solid game at fly half moved it down the line ending in the hands of Niamke who's shear pace took him to the corner to crown a well-deserved hat trick of tries.

The game now at 25-15 entered into the last minute of play Bee’s again would not admit defeat and went in for a try again unable to convert.

Final Score 25-20

Although Keighley won the game with some great running and slick passing from the backs at times the overall feel of the win was disappointment, but as is often said “a win is a win” well done!
