Under 13's - Keighley 24 – 5 Barnsley

With several key players unavailable Keighley had to borrow a Winger from the opposition in order to field a full side.

Keighley competed from the start, and put Barnsley under sustained pressure before Ryan Vero broke clear to score behind the posts after five minutes, with Jordan Powell converting.

Barnsley showed spirit and scored an unconverted try two minutes later and the teams turned round at half time 7 – 5.

The second half saw Keighley dominating both scrums and lineouts, with the Keighley front five of Akrigg/Cubitt/Shaw/Holmes/Kirkland driving the much larger opposition off the ball enabling Keighley to steal scrum ball. This dominant platform allowed Jonny Tanner to choose between launching his back line or to tell Ryan Vero at No.8 to Pick & Go.

With the Forwards and backs linking well the fitness of the Keighley players showed and Louis Holmes scored a spectacular try to give Keighley a 12 – 5 lead after 4 minutes.

Again Barnsley responded, but Keighley denied them possession at every phase and forced Barnsley to defend. From a scrum just inside the Barnsley half Ryan Vero picked up the ball and broke clear to run 40 metres to score again with two minutes remaining.

Keighley were now firmly on top, and ran the ball wide at the first opportunity with several players supporting the runners, before giving Vero the space to cross for his Hat-Trick with seconds to go, Powell added the conversion to finish the Game.
