This was a thrilling game between two determined sides, and it was Keighley who opened the scoring after Keighley’s forwards repeatedly won good ball at the breakdowns to release Keighleys backs where Vero, Pratt & Thorpe combined well to put Vero in space to leave the Bees defenders in his wake and score beneath the posts to enable Akrigg to convert.
Bees responded with determined running and were rewarded with a try early in the second half.
Keighley raised their game and spun the ball wide where Bill Cubitt and Liam King made strong runs, and when Bill Todd broke from a maul he got within feet of the try line before being swung round and tackled short of the line. Keighley’s forwards were now dominant with great work from all the pack, and despite good ball distribution from Keighleys backs Bees kept them out to secure the draw.
