4. Philip Tyas Trophy


The Philip Tyas Trophy



Philip Tyas was a 1st XV scrumhalf, joining Keighlians from Huddersfield in 1933. He was a Committee Member for 12 years from 1936. In 1945-46, he took up refereeing; retiring after officiating at the Yorkshire Shield Semi-final between Ripon and Moortown on Sat 2nd March 1957. Philip’s widow presented a trophy in memory of her husband, which is presented annually at the AGM to the person who has made the most outstanding contribution to the Club in the previous year. All members are eligible – players and non-players.

It was first presented in 1987 to Tony Simpson. Details of other recipients are shown below:
